They were playing a game. You lost. Always a good idea to check out a phone number BEFORE you call it back. Calling back unknown numbers usually ends up with you getting more such calls. To the receiver they now know that your number is real, live, and curious. Added to the list & sold to another scammer. Don't know the number? Don't leave a message? - Don't call.
