Just received the same call from 202-740-1422 from a heavy-accented man named Rondy Clar (I made him spell out his name to me) from the Department of Justice, Fraud Department in DC. He advised Customs had intercepted a check for $750K (claim ticket # CL995) for me & I need to call 718-285-8747 at NY's JFK airport and speak to Larry Fulton in Customs to verify my info to forward the check to me. He did have my correct address but he could not tell me who the letter was from. I asked Rondy his DOJ badge number; he said it was 3995 - how conveniently close to my claim # ! Of course, I did not take the bait.
I called my city Police Department and a Fraud Detective said it was a federal offense to claim to be from the DOJ and/or from Customs.
I also called the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY at 888-382-1222 to update my number. After 31 days if they call again it will a federal crime as well!
How weird! The EXACT thing happened to me today - same names, check amount, everything. I was curious so I called "Larry Fulton", I gave him my claim # and he said that to ship, insure and process the claim, I needed to send $2500. YEAH RIGHT!
I called my local FBI office and gave them the details and they said to let them know if I was contacted again.
Please do not fall for this - it is a scam. And remember to report it.
