for the longest they would call me from 800 numbers or random area codes but just today for the first time ever i got a call from this 718 number.
i'm from the Bronx and that is the area code there and since i don't usually get random calls from 718 numbers, unless they are friends and family, i picked up. luckily, i actually had the money to pay them off, and i fully planned to call them myself to get them off my back but they called and i picked up and made my check by phone payment.
they must have numbers in every area code in the country and when they get tired of reaching your voicemail they will call you from the area code closest to where you live or used to live, in order to confuse you, like they did me, into thinking it could be someone important like a relative or friend.
i've pretty much learned all of their numbers by heart and just ignore them. i know it isn't good to not pay your credit bills BUT if you don't have it, you don't have it. you can't squeeze blood out of a stone! i just ignore them until i've come up with enough money to pay them off. sure i incur late charges and fees but whatever. as soon as i've rounded up the entire balance i pay them and shut down the card. i've already done it to 3 cards this year and i hope to end 2009 without a single credit card account open.
i will never fall into the credit card trap again.

I lost my job at the end of February. Being on unemployment, my income has been cut in half, so rent, utilities, baisic groceries, and transportation have become my priorities.
The scarce extra is going towards paying off revolving credit in full to eliminate any damaging credit reporting ASAP. That's being done in expectation of worst case scenario:extended unemployment. Those nice little checks stop after 16 weeks and I've only secured two group interviews after submitting 40+ applications!
Now, I have talked to CapOne about the situation. They have supposedly noted this on their accounts and yet they still continue to call because as one rep said, "its an automated system, it will keep dialing as long as you past due."
thats not true about the "they're calling because your not paying your bills" I'm 19 years old i dont have a capital one card or account never have and the only bill i have is my insurence and my cell phone neither of which is paid through capital one. So its really annoying that this number along with some other 1800 number keeps callin my cell
