Greg Kirk called and claimed he was calling on behalf of Police Conference of New York. He said he was repesenting this nonprofit organization and asking for a donation. When I asked for his phone number because the person he asked for was out he became very agitated and rude and hung up. This seems suspicious!
I got a phone call from police conference of new york wanted me to donate for the police. The guy knew my name and wanted me to donate $20.00 I told him I did not have $20.00 Well he manage to get me to pay $15.00. He was pushy. Few days later I got a letter in the mail and of the $15.00. Well I did nothing then the reminder letter came. I still have no money to give.I check out the website. The address was not the same that was given in the letter. Then I look at the envelope that came in. It was mailed from Cleveland Ohio. I suspect this is a scam. I threw the letter in the basket.I look on the Id call on my phone.I do not see that phone number. Scammers
like to call as a charity call to dupe people in to donating. I am not paying the $15.00 for donation thinking it is a scam. I look in BBB site No such charity listed. I went to FTC never heard of pcny. I take no chances.
Man wanted donation to police officers conference. Asked him if it was for city police. Thinking I might donate if it included state troopers. He said you have lots of police officers in your town.
ASked where he was calling from. He said it was based in Albany, n.y. Told him I wasn't interested and hung up. He called right back and wanted to know why. I told him I didn't live in Albany and hung up again.
I don't know the number he called from.
Yesterday I got a phone call from some guy (Ken) claiming to represent the Police Conference of NY (PCNY). Oh, he sounded so caring and considerate. Explained they are a lobby group that represents over 25,000 police officers in NYS. They fight for tougher laws, especially those that protect our children, etc…. I told him I don’t give over the phone; fax me something. So he did, but interesting that the fax came with no cover sheet just a sticky note from "Tim". Something just didn’t feel right. I did look them up on the web and got a web page that basically supported what he said on the phone. But, again something didn’t feel right. So, I called an 877 # listed on the fax this morning and a guy answered “Good Morning” That was it. No, company name, nothing. So, I explained that I was solicited yesterday and that I would be unable to participate. He said, “Ok, I will pass that message on. What is your company name?” So I told him and we ended our call. Not two minutes later, my phone rang. It was the guy that called yesterday. I said, “I just called the number you gave me and said that I would not be participating.” He said, “Oh, OK” and he hung up on me. I called the NYS State Police to see if this is a legit organization and the trooper that answered was absolutely no help. She said she didn’t know and gave me the attitude that she could care less. You would think if they represent 25,000 NYS police officers, she would have heard of them. Anyway, I’m convinced this is a scam. Don’t donate to PCNY.
