I received two calls this a.m., and I just finished calling back. The guy answered the phone as "internal revenue service,' and I asked him his name. He said it was "Paul White." I said I was returning his call, and he asked me for my telephone number. That alone is phony, because phone numbers of callers are always displayed these days. I told him I had called the FBI, and I heard the line go dead right then. I didn't even get to finish my sentence. Actually, I hadn't called the FBI. Now maybe whoever this outfit is will read this and think they can try me again.
Thank you to everyone who posted. I called this guy back and he hung up on me when I wouldn't give him my name or number. I called him back and told him I found his number on this site and I knew he was scamming people. I am reporting the number to the IRS.
Got home from work and found 3 messages like this, all stating that I should call 718-487-9738 before "we go with legal matter and send this case to the county courthouse."
The IRS will only correspond via the US mail. I just got the call too. I know it is fraud due to my information being compromised by an employee at a previous company. The IRS advised all of us that they do no call or send emails, only snail mail.
