Actually, it is American Express. I initially had the same suspicions as you, and when I first called the number for American Express that is on the back of my card, they said it wasn't one of their numbers. But the calls continued, so I called them again and asked if they could contact the number to see if it was legitimate. They were able to confirm that it was one of the phone numbers for their Account Services department. They were able to confirm also that I was not the person they were looking for and they even put notes to that effect all over the computer. Unfortunately, the calls have continued - and this morning they even had the nerve to call my cell phone! It's absolutely maddening! If I wasn't a customer, I might be able to sue them for annoying me like this. Still, I'm documenting every call, and if it comes down to it, I will sue them for the times they have made me late for work with this nonsense, putting my job in jeopardy. I've had it with these jerks!
I do have an American Express clear card...my account is current and I haven't made any odd purchases lately that would justify a call from their fraud department to justify any transactions!!! They called me earlier today but left no messages or voicemails of any kind! I wonder if they somh stole the info out of an American express database someh?! I do not recommend giving any personal I out!ow

Call from 7185643261 asking me to call 18006780738 regarding an urgent matter with American Express. I do have an account with them and have not used it for several years. As a recent fraud victim, I am leary about every number that calls me. Do not call this number!!!
I have received a few calls from this number over the past three or four days, and no message was ever left. After reading about this number here, I decided to give them a call. I went immediately to someone without ever hitting an automated greeting or call funneling system, and those of us with AmEx cards know that never happens. There's always a wait! The woman wanted my name, and when I asked why they were calling, she asked if I had an AmEx. She claimed to be the fraud department and could not explain why she was not calling from the 800 number, etc. I asked for her operator or employee ID (which they always and gladly give you), and she balked, claiming there was no way to get back to her. When I told her of course there was, by speaking with a supervisor, she claimed they don't have any supervisors. Right! She told me I could just call the number on the back of the card, to which I replied that I would and hung up. If it's not a scan, she is certainly the worst employee at AmEx.
