Actually, it is American Express. I initially had the same suspicions as you, and when I first called the number for American Express that is on the back of my card, they said it wasn't one of their numbers. But the calls continued, so I called them again and asked if they could contact the number to see if it was legitimate. They were able to confirm that it was one of the phone numbers for their Account Services department. They were able to confirm also that I was not the person they were looking for and they even put notes to that effect all over the computer. Unfortunately, the calls have continued - and this morning they even had the nerve to call my cell phone! It's absolutely maddening! If I wasn't a customer, I might be able to sue them for annoying me like this. Still, I'm documenting every call, and if it comes down to it, I will sue them for the times they have made me late for work with this nonsense, putting my job in jeopardy. I've had it with these jerks!
Got exactly the same call as everyone else here. They left a robo-voicemail stating an urgent business matter, slight english accent, have my card ready. My account is in good standing and active (even with too much stuff on it :) so I was suspicious immediately. The rest of these reports confirms that it's probably a phishing scam.
It's a legit call. It's AMex account service dept trying to update your employment info, etc. Call back the number in the back of your card and ask them to verify if the number is legit, then ask to be transfered.
we contacted am ex about this number they give the run an around and wanted us to talk to call fraud department If this is a legit number who ever you talk to you there should know and be able to tell you anyone one them should no. THis means they don not care about customers. we are ready to cancel amex because of all this. I think if this is legit any company should let there customers know that they may get calls from freak number or even cell numbers thats what the internet is for and letter writing
called this am to tell us that amex wants to talk with us about an important matter. this was left on voice mail. when amex was called they have no record of someone calling nor any reason for them to place the call. they called again tonight but no message was left. recommend that if this person calls, let them know that they are being recorded.
