I don't think getting someone's number is an issue in general, there are billions of lists out there for purchase, and and endless number of ways you can end up on a list. The question is whether he had the right to call me, which he did not - telemarketers are required to check phone numbers against the national Do Not Call registry before making a call. I do believe there is a loophole that allows you to call if you have an existing business relationship, but I certainly do not have an existing business relationship with this organization.
As for calling me a prick, it was clear that he thought I had just hung up on him. I could almost let it slide if I was actually rude to him, but i am amazed that this guy claiming to represent the New York City Fire Department hears me say that i cant talk because I'm with my father who is incredibly sick in the hospital, and his response is to tell me he'll have to get me when I'm at home (in a pseudo-threatening way by mentioning my exact address), and then the prick thing. I'm sure I'm not the only one he's done that to, but this guy needs to NOT be making calls for the NYPD.
The representative from this company thought I had hung up and called me a prick. This was especially surprising considering I had just explained that I was at the hospital caring for my father and I could not take his call right now. He responded with "Fine, I'll just come and get you at (my address), you prick".
I called back the number several times but all I ever get is a fast busy signal.
He said they were looking for funds for the Fire Department, but everything about this seems way too shady. Not to mention, I'm on the Do Not Call list, so they have no right to call me anyway.
how do they get your number if it is on the do not call list? i don't understand.... also, if it is legit, they wouldn't call you a prick... just saying.

The identifier said "A Group" and the only reason I picked up is because the call came from my old area code, 718. As soon as I answered there was a click and that was it. I too am on the Do Not Call registry. I certainly won't be answering another call from this number again. In general I answer no calls from phone numbers or names I don't know.
A person called today on behalf of the Firefighters Children's Burn Unit. He seemed extremely annoyed that I was unemployed and quickly hung up the phone.
