I don't think getting someone's number is an issue in general, there are billions of lists out there for purchase, and and endless number of ways you can end up on a list. The question is whether he had the right to call me, which he did not - telemarketers are required to check phone numbers against the national Do Not Call registry before making a call. I do believe there is a loophole that allows you to call if you have an existing business relationship, but I certainly do not have an existing business relationship with this organization.
As for calling me a prick, it was clear that he thought I had just hung up on him. I could almost let it slide if I was actually rude to him, but i am amazed that this guy claiming to represent the New York City Fire Department hears me say that i cant talk because I'm with my father who is incredibly sick in the hospital, and his response is to tell me he'll have to get me when I'm at home (in a pseudo-threatening way by mentioning my exact address), and then the prick thing. I'm sure I'm not the only one he's done that to, but this guy needs to NOT be making calls for the NYPD.

Received a call from this number this morning. A lot of noise (conversation) in background. Person was calling for me to donate to some police 'charity'. I didn't let the person speak long enough- told him I do not do business by phone and to send it to me in writing. I hung up on them. Obviously a boiler room operation as I NEVER receive anything in writing from these bogus 'charities'.
The 'do not call' list is being circumvented by these telemarketers. It does not good to have a 'do not call list' that is not enforced with strong fines for offenders.
