I was told to call this number after receiving a confirmation number to obtain my grant. I called the number and a male with a foreign accent answered placed me on hold for 2 minutes and disconnected the call.
I got a call from 000-000-0000 saying I have won a $7000 government grant. It was a lady speaking with a foreign accent. She says this is absolutely free. I do not have to pay for anything. She gave me a confirmation number and a phone number (1-718-705-4266), to call to get my grant money sent to Western Union. I called the number and get either a busy signal or the phone rings and rings and then finally goes to a busy signal. I think this is a HOAX. I finally got through the phone line. A man speaking with a heavy foreign accent answered saying his name is "Lenny Brown". He wants $290 for a security deposit, to release the grant money to me. Said to take it to Western Union. They will send it them and then they will release the $7000 along with reimbursement of the $290, to be paid to me. Said the $290 is to be sure that I am who I say I am. This has SCAM written all over it. I did not do any of the above things. Just be aware!
Same with me, except three other foreign people with USA numbers called for the same grant. I actually paid the 261 and was an hr late when I decided to block the transfer. They are ScAMS!!! After the 260 they wanted 500$ to unblock the •"state hold" for being to big of a sum. I can't believe I fell for it. Glad I found u guys before I did pay more! Let's get these guys anyone with me???
just got a call from 0000000000 said i grant money of 7000 had to give 260 i told you dont pay for grant money he hung up on me i think people have to believe these people so therll stop doing this and go back to there country
I also got that phone call and just a few minutes after this phone call. I called my girlfriend to let her know that. She said that to me " Don’t pay any money for a “free” government grant. If you have to pay money to claim a “free” government grant, it isn’t really free. A real government agency won’t ask you to pay a processing fee for a grant that you have already been awarded , or to pay for a list of grant-making institutions" . Thank you doudou mwen!!
Something should be done about this scam artists, and the legislature should better come up with heavy penalties for such scams.
But at the same time we should all know better; or better still learn from others that you don't pay for cash to get cash, that should bring up a red flag.
