Hello Edward. If you got the same IRS call, yes you can ignore it. It's a Scam.

Not Stupid
I received the same message and thought it would be fun to call him back. I called them back and spoke to Officer Logan Howard badge number 1817. He looked up the information I gave him (not me). He told me I would be arrested if I didn't give him the information he asked for. I told him it was his lucky day since I am sitting in a police department at work. He told me I was a housewife and would get arrested for pretending to be an officer since he didn't hear my coworkers. After 10 minutes of trying to get personal information from me I told him he is a scam and what they are doing is wrong. He hung up on me.

I have gotten the same IRS (SCAM)  calls from (2) different phone numbers: 312-888-7462 Chicago, Illinois & 720-364-2203 Denver, Colorado over the past (6) weeks.  I was told I owed $ for mistakes in my tax payments, over a (5) year period.  They were going to freeze all bank accounts , revoke my drivers license, freeze all credit cards, and take my home on top of taking me to court and having me arrested.  After all that I would have to pay court costs, additional fines on top of what they say I owe them.  Now the kicker, My son got his first call from them this morning with all the same threats.  Our last names aren't the same.  Comparing notes :  same opening recording, same accent (heavy Indian) same instructions to call back, same threats.  When I called them SCAMMERS I was told to go F__ __ __ Off and he hung up on me.  I'm 72 years old.

The IRS does not need to sue anyone.  They send you first class letters delivered by the Post Office.  Several of them.  Ignore those, and they then send certified letters that you need to sign for.  Again delivered by the Post Office.  Ignore those and they simply freeze your bank accounts and anything else you own.  If they can do that, then why would they bother with a court case that might take them years before they get in front of a judge?  They also do not bother arresting people for a few thousand dollars for the same reasons I have already given.  The IRS does not accept payment in Itunes Cards, Amazon gift cards, or any other type of payment other than cash, check, credit or debit card (from normal everyday citizens).
