I screen all of my calls, so when these people called me this morning they asked for me by my legal name, which no one calls me, ever. I asked them to leave a message, the lady on the other end gave me her name, I asked her for the phone number. Her reponse was "it's the one that showed up on the caller ID." I said "Ok, what company is this?" She said it was a personal business matter." I said "On, I understand that, but, having the business name would be helpful." She refused to to give it, just her name and that was it. I've had calls from different bill collectors, it's pretty strange that they refused to even give their busijess name.
Under the FDCPA, "the placement of telephone calls without meaningful disclosure of identity" by a debt collector is a violation of federal law. Even when calling a third party for location information, the collector must identify her employer "if expressly requested". So either this is NOT a debt collector, or they are not following the law.
