This is the number that showed up on my caller ID. they are interested in you charge card #. If you keep them on the line or mess with them they call back and cuss you out. Will not stop calling!
I have signed up for the National Do Not Call list 3 times in the last six months. It seems like once I signed up to not get these calls I get more of them! URGH!!! How do I make them stop calling me??? It is very frustrating when your cell phone goes off while you are in a meeting and its these stupid people.
They are scammers. They want your money. Don’t give it to them. They use RoBo Dialers. A RoBo Dialer just calls a list of numbers (some several numbers at the same time). The first number to answer can go to the operator. Sometimes when you answer, it waits for you to say something before it triggers so it can verify that it has a possible sucker on the line.
If they call, press the number to talk to them. Be nice and polite. Tell them you are interested. Then tell them one or more of the following:
- Can I record this call for legal reasons?
- Hold on while I start the recorder. I want to put this on YouTube.
- I have a lot of accounts. I have all the information in an excel worksheet (or another type of file) that I can send you. What is the email address I can send it to? (When you get it, send the email address to the FTC. Don’t tell them that that is what you’re going to do. They will change their email address.) Or ask for their mailing address.
- I am very busy right now. Can you call me back later? (They may ask for your number because they don’t know it.) Give them the number they are calling from or one of the other numbers they call from (let them talk to themselves). (Do not give a bogus number unless it is your area code and 555-1212 information.)
- This is my cell number. Let me give you my land line number. See above.
- I have had problems with paying my bills and all my cards are maxed out and the credit card companies have closed my accounts. See the next thing to tell them below.
- Give them a long list (about ten to twelve) bogus 16 digit numbers like credit card numbers with bogus expiration dates and bogus 3 digit CVC numbers. Never give them real information about yourself.
Talk slow and keep them on the line as long as possible. Pause before you answer. Make like you can’t hear them. Make noises like you are thinking (Well …). Ask them to hold on while you get the dog, he’s messing on the rug. Stuff like that. Write everything down. Record the conversation if you can. Report it to the FTC. The more complaints with details, the more likely they are to do something. Talk to TV reporters.
No matter what they say, be cool. That drives them nuts.
DO NOT give them any of your real information!
Do not violate the law.
Have fun. Let us know what you did and how it turned out.
Fake credit card numbers (google "Graham king credit card numbers" to find a page of randomly-generated invalid numbers with valid CC-number format. Use with any random card exp. date and fake name).
