The people at Portfolio Recovery are genuine bottom feeders of debt collection industry. They buy old statute expired debt and through harassment tactics try to collect 10 to 30 cents on the dollar. Of course the minute anything is collected, the statute date resets to day 1 and their other outfits and ambulance chasers come after you. If you have noticed their letter of settlement is only for the debt with them, not original debtor or the next place they sell it to. The only way to fight these guys is to get with your state authorities. These guys know all the Federal loopholes.
This number calls me daily over debts that are 10 years or older! I wish they realized that its useless after 7 years funny thing is I didnt use any of the services they say I owe for.
Same here. The date they gave me was over 8 years ago. I told them "in the first place, I'm not even responsible for the debt you're calling me about, and even if I were, the statute of limitations has expired on it." Their answer was, "the statute of limitations just means that they can't pursue any legal action to collect the debt." So I replied, "so what you're saying then is that you are pursuing an ILLEGAL action to attempt to collect?" They hung up.
