Called my phone today. When I pressed "1" to speak to an operator, a male answered. When I asked why I was getting these calls to my cell phone, he hung up on me. When I called back, the message says it is a nonworking number.
These @$$holes are at it again. If you're stupid enough to give them your credit card number, you deserve to be robbed. And you will be.
The story goes that credit card companies are exempt from laws about robo-calls (even though this is not a credit card company, they just want to charge you $5,000 to "lower your interest rate"). There's legislation pending to get them for giving a fake caller ID for fraudulent purposes.
Best bet so far . . . when they ask for your credit card balance, say "I'll go get my invoice" and set the phone down. No promises -- they will keep calling you and hanging up (because they don't have enough people to handle their automatic dialer).
