Rec'd call from 732-837-9166. Female left a message (addressed to my spouse) that they were an 'independent process server' for 'Sussex City County' and that they will be arriving at our home tomorrow afternoon to serve documents. If we are not there with proper ID they will be forced to go to his place of employment to serve him there. Caller left a call back number of 443-203-1929 and a case number. Both of these area codes are in the northeast, we are in the south. I blocked my number and called the callback number -- the phone only rang and rang with no answer.
I suspect that this is a bill collector who is just calling everyone with the same (fairly rare) name hoping that they'll get a call back leaving such a message. I have no idea. Personally, we are responsible people with no overdue bills, etc. or any plausible reason why we should be "served papers". And besides, since when do process servers call to give you a heads up that they are coming? I think that's like the opposite of how they work.
What ever happened? Did anyone ever show up to serve? I got a call from the same 732# and they said the same thing. I just don't need them showing up at my work with something that's bogus.
Same here. Left message (could barely understand) saying they would be serving papers. I've received many calls from scam numbers in the past so I just ignore and block caller.
A message came on the screen of my roommates Apple lap top computer as he opened it that there was a Trojan virus in the computer and to call this number right away to get rid of the virus. The computer was locked and a prerecorded message kept playing over and over. I called the number and he said he was with Apple support and he would get the virus off of the computer. I could hear people talking in the background. He was asking me to go though different steps on the computer to get the virus off. He wanted me to turn off Safari and my wifi and open Goggle and down load something and open it and I couldn't understand him that well and then he said to hold on a couple of times and that he was going to get the senior tech on the phone. I started feeling really uncomfortable with the whole situation and told him my phone was going in and out and that I would call him back from a different phone and he said just 5 more minutes we're almost there. Then I really started to realize he wasn't from Apple and this was some kind of scam and I just needed to hang up the phone. I hung up the phone and he tried to call me back from 2 different numbers 1-732-837-9041 and 1-732-837-9166 and my phone said scam or fraud on my phones screen. I don't know what kind of scam they were trying to pull but the Apple laptop will be going to Bestbuy tomorrow for the geek squad to figure out how they were able to lock out the computer and sent that message. Hopefully, there's no viruses on there. I do have password security and virus protection on all my electronic devices
