Caller ID said Home Alarms. Call was from Catalina, CA. My answering machine monitors all calls who's caller ID is missing or I don't know. If they leave a message I'll call back - if I'm interested:-)
4/24/2014 - "Member Rewards", 740-475-2626 called. No matter how many times the scam company changes its name DO NOT ANSWER. What a bunch of idiots! Who is behind this mess of dialers? Don't they get the message - stop the calling! All proper authorities have been notified. Your nasty messages, incompetent employees that do not speak English or don't understand what you say to them, they are disgusting! The telephone companies should pull the plug on ALL OF THEM. One scam caller (after many interrupting calls)and, after he was told to never call again ,to take the phone number he called off his list went so far as to say he knew where I lived and that he would slit my throat (among other sexually explicit threats he made). I notified the Sheriff's Office, etc.
Mine also said "MEMBER REWARDS" - an obvious scam.
@withheld: the reason these companies exist is because there is a LOT of people out there who fall for it. especially seniors. Many seniors have issues with deteriorating mental problems and can be fooled, and these dirtbags don't have any problem stealing money from them.
When you pick up, at least mute the phone. If go to voicemail or worse if you answer with your own voice, they will register that your number is good, meaning ripe for further calls. This is called "scouting," to find new targets. If you call the number back, of course you will get silence because their system is logging your number as a good number for further call-age.
An obvious clue is what is used as Caller ID name. For those who keep track, 3152850092, 2012433390, 9732737826 and 9732737840 are familiar numbers for Cnam of "Member Rewards." Since previous numbers were New Jersey, appears they are branching out all the way to Ohio, as if different area code fools anyone. Do as Lone Stranger and others suggest, get Digitone call blocker (can block whole area codes or just prefixes within an area code) or use Google Voice. These scamsters only need to make a few connects--calling several thousand numbers every day is part of doing their dirty, evil business.
