Caller ID said Home Alarms. Call was from Catalina, CA. My answering machine monitors all calls who's caller ID is missing or I don't know. If they leave a message I'll call back - if I'm interested:-)
I agree that these scammers will continue to cook up schemes as long as they are successful in locating easy victims. Scams are everywhere, not just on the phone. Here are some Websites, and there are other sites, that report known scams, but new ones come up almost everyday: scamicide.com, thatsnonsense.com, www.fbi.gov/scams-safety and www.stopfraud.gov/
The only way to put them out of business is through more law enforcement, phone company cooperation, public education and watching out for each other (like on 800Notes.com and similar sites).
Called me today. There was something weird about the call: The phone would not stop ringing unless I turned it off which I did. About 15 seconds after I did that, they called again. Knowing that at this point, they wouldn't stop calling, I answered. There was no one at the other end. I think it's a scam...
