Number was shown to originate in California where it was 5:30am. Middle eastern accent said his name was Mike and was calling about Windows Wave server error messages originating from my pc. This seems like the phising scam that I have heard about so I hung up and looked up the number to find many different scams apparently associated to the number.
This is the "computer tech support" scam, a widely publicized scam where they charge you money to install malware on your computer, by convincing you that they are Microsoft and your computer is telling them that it has a virus.
They call me saying they were Microsoft support and that my keys had expired. He asked if I was near my computer. I said no. I asked him for identification and he just mumbled something. I asked again and there was a long pause. They he said "F$&@ you" and some other curse words. I hung up and reported the number to the government scam website.
I believe these to be the same people that would hijack your computer for ransom. Never give your IP to anyone you don't know.
