Posted ad on Craigslist for 8GB iPhone 4. After buyer asks "What is the present condition and final price?" (which I clearly addressed in the original ad), next text said "okay i will be offering you $500 for it including shipping fees". After asking only $300, I thought, that's weird? Red flag #1. Then after I ask what payment method they suggest, I receive response with a shipping address and asking if I have a PayPal account. Shipping address is in Nigeria. Red flag #2. Each response is spaced out by several hours. Red flag # 3. And finally after pushing aside the excitement of making an extra $200, logic and my conscience kicked in, so I searched the 23401 Nigerian zip code, and immediately saw several responses for SCAMS. Red flag #4. Searched the phone number, found this website, and that was the final confirmation. Red flag #5.
Glad I didn't send even an invoice from PayPal. Too strange, too fishy, not a good situation for me or anyone else. Be very careful people!!
They try to scam you on kijiji. He said he was part of the military and stationed away but i needed to mail things to his family and he would pay using paypal. I received a fake email saying the money would be moved to my account when i showed the slip saying it was in the mail.
Yeah, I found it fishy that I got a reply minutes after posting my Ad. Right after they offered me more than I was asking I smelled a scam, asked a basic math question and got no reply.
Within minutes of posting my ad to sell my Iphone I received a text message on my phone from this phone number. I responded before thinking, and then looked it up. Great, not only do these idiots have my mobile number, but now I am ghetting charged for International Text messages!! Oh joy!!
Posted an ad for my iPod, about an hour after, what do you know, I get a reply. He texted me, at first it didn't seem like a scam, just a guy wanting to buy an iPod. But then he said he will give me 150$ including shipping, I was only asking for 65$. Then he says he lives in Louisiana, and I'm up in Canada. He wanted to come to me but he was on a "business trip" so he couldn't.
Just don't trust this guy, and this was on kijiji
