I received this call tonight saying I won a free trip. I had just received a call within an hour before from Simplicity Bridal 866 797 0241 giving the exact same speech telling me I won the same thing. I had researched the number from Simplicity Bridal and was seeing it as a scam on this site and was currently reading about it when this Equitable Accep place called about the SAME win. I told them it was a scam immediately because I was just told I won the same thing a little bit ago. He replied "Oh I see you just spoke with Byron Gilmoore a little bit ago, I didn't realize he already called". I told him I had just looked this up on the internet and that it was a scam. He asked if I believed everything I read on the internet and I told him I believed it enough to know I didn't want to continue talking to him. According to the Simplicity Bridal thread they say you win and when you pick up your prize at some hotel you have to watch something on timeshares or whatever to be able to claim your prize.
My finace and I also recieved a call from them, but it is legitimate. They are clean with the BBB. To claim your prize you need to attend a conference but are NOT obligated to buy anything. You just have to sit there for two hours. Haven't taken our trip yet, but we have the certificate and everything.
Careful...I learned after a presentation by my state's Consumer Protection division (look it up, every state has one in their government) that not even everything in the BBB is safe. Many companies will sign up with the BBB just to look legit it turns out. The best thing to do is to contact Consumer Protection in your state and/or the state the company is associated with. My fiance and I got scammed into going on some timeshare thing. Instead of the 90 minutes they "guaranteed" us it would last...4 1/2 hours later we were finally leaving. It will be high pressure too...our offers went from $45,000 to $5,000!!! Another board I looked on said that many of these companies change their names from time to time otherwise too many people catch on. Best of luck to you!
My fiance and I also got this call and went out to hotel in Milwaukee to listen to their thing on some cooking stuff but we had a pretty good time. The people were from Pinkapronpreview.com and the girl we spoke with was named Heidi. She was very friendly, it did run about 20 minutes longer than we thought but they provided us with a free meal and the trip turned out to be legit. I will be honest though I kinda laughed at my fiance because I was certain that it was going to be a scam, but it turned out to be all right.
