We have received five calls in as many days. We never pick up the phone, but it is annoying and intrusive. Good to know from reading these other responses exactly what it is and how to deal with it.
The number I get calls from constantly is 317-398-5728, It's asking for money on behalf of the Indiana State Police. It has the Affiliated VM caller ID. I guess since it is part of the government, the no call rule doesn't apply... disguised as a non-profit organization. I contend that our taxes in Indiana pay for the police in this state, and drumming up more money with phone calls to people on the Indiana no call as well as the federal no call lists should be in violation. The next time I get a speeding ticket, maybe I will point that out. When they extort even more money from you. BTW, did you know that in most Indiana counties (as in other states I'm sure) you can apply a "pre-trial diversion" to most traffic violations, as well as other misdemeanors. It is a bribe to the state to strike the infraction from your record after a set period of time, usually 6 months or a year. It will cost you about twice as much as the fine you were given, but it goes away from your record if you don't commit another act within the probation period. That's justice.
Affiliated VM has called constantly. I finally answered the phone it is Indiana Police wanting donation for fallen officers. I cannot give at this time and individual on other line was very rude and harrassing about me making a donation. I finally had to hang up. How can we stop this?
I just GOOGLED my state Fraternal Order of Police and reported (via email) the invasive harassing phone calls and asked if they will direct me to whatever organization AM/UM is representing.
