Total scam. Fraud investigations are for the most part criminal matters. They are handled by law enforcement. If you were suspected of a crime you'd be interviewed by law enforcement representatives on a face-to-face basis. No debt collector would have anything to do with it. Debt collectors do not handle fraud complaints. Having an unpaid payday loan is NOT a crime. We do not have debtors prisons in the US. Felony charges are handled by law eforcemtn; debt collectors have nothing to do with them. This is a scam from the word go.
Ignore and block these calls.
Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.
If they are bothering you, report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.) The same goes for endless telephone harassment
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them. Tell 'em no scammy debt collector is going to push you around.
You have to get tuff with these people because, being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking). the only thing they understand.
Same call again to my new mobile number - letting me know that they have no clue as to whom they are calling. "Your name involved in fraud. Contact immediately to avoid prosecution." Waited for the automated message to end and told the person that they were being reported to the Federal Authorities. Became very angry and very uneducated rude - did not know how to form a rebuttal or response. How bad does crap have to get before someone does something about these low life scammers? At my witt's end - you block one number and they call from another number - which also lets me know that this is huge network of scammers with no legitimacy.
This is the same scam I've been dealing with. This message says your social n bank info. are part of a fraud investigation. I blocked these numbers yesterday n today they're calling from diff numbers. Surely SOMETHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT!!! They left no information on who to call or the company name. Sounds shady from the first moment!!
I don't know what to do. I hate getting calls like this because I don't like believing people out there buy our info in lists from places we have actually used amd use the info to attempt to scam us like this.
770 is a Georgia area code, so I didn't answer. The voice mail stated my name and personal information linked me as the primary suspect in a fraud case so I called back. We started talking and I'm sorry but a real law firm gives you it's real name, not "legal meditation service". When I asked why he was calling from Georgia, he said "I'm not from Georgia, I'm in the same state as you, why are you more worried about were I am as opposed to the charges against you?" I'm not worried about the charges because there are none, I'm not committing fraud, you are. He hung up on me. Still I know they'll call again. I wish there was some authority out there that was supposed to find these criminals, oh wait, there is. The FBI who ignore telephone scans.
This is a scam. Some oufit claiming I have unstated charges upcoming and they can help me. It's clearly bullstuff. Please do something about these jerks who are I'm sure conning not-smart folks out of a lot of money.
