***ALERT*** Short days ago I wrote about getting a call, and when I answered it, to my total shock, it was a man INSTRUCTING A COURSE IN TELEPHONE SCAMS!! That call came from area code 706, which covers numbers from mid to southern Georgia, When he finally took a breath, I said something like "So what do you need ME for -- YOU called ME."
I hear part of a gasp as he hangs up on me. I wait a while and call back. It rings a long time, around 15--20 times; someone picks up and hangs up at lightening speed. I don't have caller ID, but reverse lookup (after *69) from several sites all said it came from Braselton, Georgia.
TODAY I GET A CALL FROM THE # ABOVE -- which is the area code for surrounding areas of ATLANTA and Marietta GA -- and it sounds like the same guy, except, get this:
HE CLAIMS TO BE CALLING TO COLLECT FUNDS FOR THE FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE -- IN NEW JERSEY!
He did exactly as the first call instructed: "...forget whatever they answer, the lead in is just a set up for you to get to the question to get their money!"
Sure enough, I told this extremely pushy person I'm disabled, fighting cancer, and literally ran out of money for the month TODAY, to buy my last monthly medication -- which left me broke to buy food until my disability money comes in. He did not comment on ANY of that, just said in a forceful voice, "SO WHEN CAN WE EXPECT YOUR DONATION, MA'AM?" I replied that it would be two + half weeks,
He ignored I even replied to him. "SO WHEN CAN WE EXPECT YOUR DONATION, MA'AM?"
I repeated my reply again and added, "How long does your drive last?" He REFUSED TO ANSWER. "SO WHEN CAN WE EXPECT YOUR DONATION, MA'AM?"
I repeated my question, he repeated his reply, rudely adding even MORE agitation to his voice. "SO WHEN CAN WE EXPECT YOUR DONATION, MA'AM?"
"The soonest, as I said before, would be over two and a half weeks."
He barely paused, then said, very unpleasantly, "THEN MAYBE YOU CAN DONATE NEXT YEAR," and he hung up in my face!
Most of you have probably gotten a call from the Fraternal Order of Police before, and you *know* they do not act so cruelly nor rudely. Why would GA be collecting for New Jersey? And I still think it sounded like the guy who accidently called me while teaching a TELEPHONE SCAM class,
This number calls me daily, Monday through Friday, and has been calling for weeks. I answered one time and said to remove me from their list, and it did no good. Now, I just let the machine get it, and the caller hangs up at that point. It's a nuisance.
