At approx. 1:05p i received a call supposedly from the U.S. Grant Department. I was a asked a series of questions that revealed caller had a lot of personal information about me, it seemed like everything but my ssn, which he tried obtaining during the course of his call. Caller explained that i had won $7000 in grants and that he was trying to disburse to me which is why ssn and bank#'s were needed.
I immediately became suspicious after i was told i would get info in mail if i had to have it after giving my personal info out, so i pumped him for as much info as possible to report. Did some digging and found out this is a scam. Thank god my phone company displays true names and numbers of all calls despite peoples' deceptive practices.
The man who called me is heavily accented indian who called from 770-926-5021 name displayed as a one Carl Stiebel. This man also directed me to call a woman by the name of Janet Morris at 202-657-5308. I am a part-time student who's been out of work for a few years. The man who called said these were the type of people who won the grants. These folks are sick and i hope more people report them so they get caught.
This scamm guy has called us at least twice! I think he said "from American Grants," but I interrupted him with "take our name off y our list!", which probably does us no good. I still have a home telephone so can slam down the receiver. Feels so good ! I googled the phone number and found this post. BEWARE of phone calls fr. him. Also, he talks in broken English.

My wife just got a call from 770-926-5021 on her cell phone. "Joe McCain" offered her a $7000 government grant. She asked him to talk to me handed me her handset. He offered three options to receive it, one of which was "plastic card." I chose that one and asked him to mail us a debit card pre-loaded with the $7000. He said, "OK, then I need your credit card number and expiration date." I refused, repeating that if he was going to send us the plastic card he would already know them. I said I would call him back. He gave us the number 202-697-9348 to call back on.
