This number is listed on "WHO CALLED ME.COM". These losers are running a seriousscam. They call and say that your brother was in a serious accident (they change the details of the "accident" for each call). My example is identical to one posted on the above website. Caller said while my brother was attempting to make a phone call regarding the car accident, he was hit on the head with a gun and locked in the trunk of the other drivers car. They immediately needed $2000.00 for his release. I don't have a brother, & when I stated that, he said "Then it must be your Father, he gave us this number to call you". My father is deceased. I was then hung up on. Depending on the person they reach, they'll keep going and say "well it's your "grandson/nephew/etc." They seem to always start with a "brother" according to comments, then move to "Father" etc. It seems they base their game on the age of the person they reach. It's a known scam, police can do nothing. I hope everyone who is called by these idiots just hangs up. I worry about elderly people being targeted.
These SOBs made the same call to me early morning and the story they gave fit a certain family member to the T. I was like a maniac thinking this was really happining until a call was made to this person only to find he was in bed!! I cant believe that people will take advantage of an app only to try and scare the hell out of someone and to recieve cash. Those are the type of people I would like to see in a dark ally with a few of my peeps maybe they would be the ones in the trunk....Scumbags!!!!
The same thing happened to me on Good Friday! April 3rd 2015, I had to bargain with the idea of my brother's life being in a balance. Despite their threats of don't go to the police, I did. The police claim they can't do anything, but I have a hard time believing that. Because the scum that threatened the life of my family was actually willing to answer the phone again, I told the police I was willing to follow through with the ransom demands if they were willing to act on it. They said to let it go and that they get hundreds of reports like these. They have been since December from news reports I have read about it. It makes me so angry! I now know that I am not important enough to be protected....ugh! Happy Easter!
You should make a report anyway and demand that at the very least the police go to the media and report the matter to the local community. Print out this page. But as a practical matter there is little the police can do. The scammers will demand payment by untraceable means.
I know this scam has been hitting the northeast a lot recently. Most people seem to think it comes out of the Dominican Republic or some Caribbean country. Maybe Puerto Rico
