I got a call today informing me that the IRS was starting a fraud investigation. The number I called was 779-552-6416 and the caller ID name was Anthony White.
All 3 men I spoke to had an Indian accent. The first time I called, the man said his name was Michael Davis and I owed $3,200. I asked to speak to a supervisor and his name was Steven Jones. I called back later after the second man hung up on me when I said I was going to call the actual IRS. I called back later after reading this post to see if my name had been flagged somehow because I wasn't going to pay anything. The 3rd man's name was Brian Smith! Such American names, right? This time, I owed $1,500.
Total scam...beware!
Received a threatening call today stating that IRS was suing me for $4,000 unpaid taxes. I asked him to provide me with additional information, but he was unable to do that. I said I was not going to pay any money today so he hung up. The man had a strong Indian accent. It smelled like scam; it was a scam.
They left several messages on my VM, stating that they were starting a tax fraud investigation. The caller name on my caller ID was Anthony White. I received other calls a couple of months ago from different numbers saying I owed them money. Didn't call this number back, but will report it to the Treasury Inspector General office. Another scam trying to get your money. The IRS doesn't call you, they send letters via through the U.S. Post Office.
I got a call today informing me that the IRS was starting a fraud investigation. The name on the caller ID was Anthony White. The number he called from was 779-552-6416. I answered the phone, and listened to the message. He told me to call this number for more information. I haven't returned the call because I wanted to check to see if this was a scam. I reported it to www.tigta.gov.
