Serious debt collectors and they DO go to court. If you receive a valid summons and complaint from this group, make sure you answer the complaint. This is necessary to avoid a default. Many of these debt collecting law firms rely on default judgments against unsophisticated defendants for their main source of income. If you do find yourself in that kind of situation, consult with legal aid or some such similar organization. And remember that many states limit the sort of assets that can be levied on by judgment. Also garnishments are limited in some states and in some cases prohibited outright.

The following describes a pending government action that has been formally brought by a government agency but has not yet been resolved. We are providing a summary of the governments allegations, which have not yet been proven.
On 12/23/2015 the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office announced that a complaint was filed against Lustig, Glaser & Wilson, P.C. alleging that the business repeatedly sued consumers for debts they did not owe, or debts that were inaccurate. The complaint alleges that the business violated the state's consumer protection laws by collecting exempt income; filing deceptive lawsuits; using false or misleading court filings; demanding payment of time-barred debts; demanding payment on dismissed lawsuits; and collecting on inaccurate and unsubstantiated debts. The complaint seeks injunctive relief, restitution for consumers, and civil penalties.
