Scam. As another person noted, they say they are an Officer of the I R S. They insinuate that you've committed fraud on your tax filings, and need to call them back right away. Too bad these folks can't be stopped.
1. The IRS has published warnings about this scam.
2. Most (if not all) of the IRS scammers are in India or Pakistan ... outside our jurisdiction.
3. A VERY effective countermeasure is EDUCATION. Folks should know the IRS does not cold-call people.
