My 87 year old grandmother got a call from this number on 3/3/2015. The man did not identify himself, but he wanted her to make an investment with Capital One. She immediately hung up. Upon further investigation it appears the number is from a Skype account, so all credibility is null and void. This is a scam, pure and simple.
I called the number back, and a man actually answered the phone saying, "Thank you for calling Capital One. How may I help you?" First of all, Capital One has 6 different financial sectors with thousands of branches worldwide. No one person is manning a phone ready to answer it after 2 rings without being from a very specific department. You have to go through 4 different automated prompts just to talk to someone about talking to someone about talking to the person you need to talk to.
I've sent an e-mail to
[email protected] with the phone number. Hopefully they can shut it down. At the very least they can trace it to an IP address as long as the fraudulent party is stupid enough not to know how to mask it.
