Here is how this scam works. Your very own phone company sells lists of phone numbers to anyone who will pay for them. Then they use a robot dialer to dial the numbers. They never talk because they want you to call back. This is why they dial in a fake area code that is the same as yours. At lease the smarter ones have started doing this. This way they get a name associated with the number that builds a list of confirmed names & phone numbers. This is something that they can now sell to other scammers as a list. If you talk with the scammer on a call back they will say they can send you something like redemption coupons worth hundreds of dollars for just $8. You think this is a good deal. NOT. If they wanted to give you 200 dollars worth of coupons they could also give you another $8 in shipping as well. What then happens is you get some clippings in your mail box from throw away junk mail pamphlets and think that this was just a small scam. NOT. Now your mailing address, phone number, credit card info is a real hit list that they sell on the dark web to the bigger scammers. Soon there are two of you and the other one is on a spending spree! The trail by now is very muddled with little to trace. Never ever call back!!!!!
