Got a call this morning from this number and was able to look it up quickly so I didn't answer. Also saved the number as a "SPAM" named contact and set the ringer to "none" so it won't ring. I do this with all spam callers. I realize it is someone at the other end trying to make a living with a thankless job, but it is still annoying.
Called a business line, wanted to verify our address and phone number, then said we had won 1 of 4 prizes including a Ford Explorer. I told the lady that I didn't have time for this and she said "Oh, well we're almost done" I said no, you need to call back and talk to the boss because I'm not authorized to give any authorization. She said "this is for anybody in the company and we're almost done" I then told her I had a customer standing in front of me and don't have time for this and hung up. Caller ID identified them as IMS and the caller identified them as Federal Financial.
Yup the telemarketer called my cell phone and started telling me that I had won one of four prizes.....only needed to answer three innocent questions...ya right...duhhh..had an Indian as in the country type accent...told her I was on the do not call list....pitty the poor fool that actually believes them...maybe I'll win the Irish Lotto/Sweepstakes next...lol
I got a call but did not answer it. Instead, I googled it and got this website. Based upon what the posters have commented it is probably a very old telemarketing scam. It is commonly referred to as a "one of five deal". They tell you that you have won one of five prizes. Then, they tell you that they can't tell you what it is but they give you a hint (e.g. they shake the car keys). Then, they ask you to pay for the taxes and transportation costs. You then are told what your "prize" is. Usually, they send you something to technically comply with the law and avoid prosecution.
For example, if you have won a whirlpool spa they send you a cheap little child's pool with a bubble maker that may be powerful enough to provide enough oxygen to keep a goldfish alive in a one fish aquarium. Or, if you win a dry sauna they send you a piece of dark plastic with a hole for your head and four tiny kite sticks. You go out in the sun, put the sticks on the corners of the plastic, sit (on your own chair) and put your head through the plastic. An absolute scam in every instance I am aware of.
called the office asked for Lauren, when i informed them there was no lauren they then asked for susan, my response was the same no susan here. Asked for my name which i refused to give then said they just wanted to let me know i'd won some scratch off card. I then hung up and they proceeded to call me back multiple times in a row which i ignored after reading this.
Called my place of employment and asked for one owner by name, and when I said he wasn't here, could I take a message -- he asked for the other owner by name. When I told them that neither owners are at this location and "Is there something I can help you with?" Then he asked if it was me with my first name. I didn't answer him but asked, "What is this in regards to sir?" Then he asked if it was me again using my first AND last name. Again I asked "What is this in regards to sir?" (he asked again if it was me), I repeated myself a third time very sternly and he still refused to answer then started telling me that if he was MY customer .... blah blah blah. I hung up on him. Caller ID said IMS. He tried calling back but I didn't answer.
