The caller asked for me by my name, and when I confirmed "That's me," she said "You're one tough cookie to get a hold of" (which I'm not), then she said, "Hang on a sec," and immediately hung up on me. I suspect these folks are conducting an illicit operation to verify the accuracy of a big list of names and phone numbers, perhaps so they can sell the newly verified list of names and numbers to other telemarketers.
This is an alleged charity collecting donations for breast cancer research. I know this to be fact because my land line rang on a Sunday morning at 9:30 AM, and like a fool I answered instead of letting my answering machine intercept the call. When I answered, a lady with a thick Southern accent asked if I was David, and when I said yes, she proceeded to launch into her rehearsed spiel soliciting donations for breast cancer research. I hung up shortly thereafter, but the information I've read on other sites indicates one of the first things the caller asks for is your credit card number, so it's most likely a scam operation posing as a charity. I wouldn't even have answered my phone except that I thought it might be a family member from out of state calling. I never thought a phone solicitor would stoop so low as to call at 9:30 AM on a Sunday. I was WRONG, so from now on I'll just let my answering machine intercept 24/7. Put this number on your blocked list!
My father is 92 years old in very bad health. They call him and when he answers no one responds. When I answer they hang up on me before I can explain the situation. Can they leave the sick and elderly alone. He goes to bed at 7pm and many calls are around 9:00 pm. He has no way to help them and their phone calls are a total harassment. We need somehow to stop these calls to the sick and elderly. Where is there help for these innocent people. I have his phone registered many times on the do not call list. Where is his protection. How do they get around this!
Charities, along with some Survey's and Political calls, are exempt from the DNC, however, they can still get into trouble for not placing you on a internal DNC when asked, you can also check your states laws in regards. Some states have different laws in regards to the calls, which can differ from the federal.
Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or less. If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.
Report your callers here if they continue to call and harass:
