Got a reply to an ad I posted. Claims to be in the military and out of town. He was very insistent that due to this he could only do a money order so he needed my address to mail one and have his personal carrier come to pick it up. I noticed several red flags in my conversations with him:
If he was in the military he'd go through the BX. He'd get a better price and they would deliver it to him wherever he was.
I was in the military. We don't have "personal carriers" pick things up for us unless we're moving and the stuff is in our homes packed and ready to ship.
He structured his sentences very properly, but made vocabulary mistakes very common to those in people from Africa that I've met on dating sites
Someone in his own state (Vt) has the same instrument posted for $50 less. I live in Maine, a 3 hr drive away.
He didn't try and dicker the price even though I posted OBRO after the price.

It's a scam & sadly a very common one posted on 800 notes. The idea is to get you to use a CASH wire transfer service to send money to their 'shipper'. Imagine, the shipper & the scammer are the same person. The check/money order/Paypal receipt are all fake. It'll clear your bank at first & then bounce in 4 - 6 weeks. Very common scam. Variations are the (a) Deaf woman (b) Ocean scientist on remote base (c) Military on ship & can't use a phone.
Claimed to be in military and insisted that he could not call me because he was apart of the military. This is a scam, he also insisted I give my address which is very dangerous. This number replies to a lot of ads so be carful when you see this number. If he can not call then there something wrong.
