I keep getting medical collections calls from CAB. I have a severe incurable (and expensive) disability that racks up medical bills, so medical debt collection calls are not new to me. These people are absolutely unreal though. The first call I received (after my account went to them) was normal enough... the girl wanted $ as they all do, and I explained that I did not have it at the moment but my husband would receive his yearly bonus at the end of the week and I would send something then. Which I did send a big chunk. But I also had a long list of others I needed to send something to. I couldn't afford to pay it in full. She called me a week later and stated that she called me the previous week and I refused to pay. It infuriated me. I never refused to pay... I simply explained my situation and that I would send something in a few days, which I did. She was very angry that it was a little less than half and not the whole balance. My sickly self owes tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills to places I've large balances for long times. I've NEVER had anyone get this nasty with me. And considering it was just a couple hundred dollars and they had the account for less than a month, it seems like major overkill for her to come down on me that way. My situation is depressing enough and I make an effort and do what I can. Eventually everything gets paid. Frankly though, even though the balance isn't large, they just dropped to the bottom of the priority list and they will get paid after the others that are nicer, more patient and understanding. And I will no longer go to the provider that uses their collections agency. I don't appreciate being made to feel like a piece of *%^ for something I can't control. And for not being made of $. I don't like liars or people putting words in my mouth. And I certainly do not appreciate getting harassing calls from some snot that does not know me, who wants to berate me for no reason whatsoever. I don't wish my illness on anyone, but I swear I was choking back tears and the urge to say "heaven forbid you should wake up tomorrow and not be able to feel or use your legs and never get it back... and lose your job and everything else in the process. call me after you've been through that for more than a decade and then see how quick you are to pass judgment and belittle someone."
Your first problem is paying them without having them validate the debt. Even if you think that you owe the money, that does not mean they have the right to collect it. They also cannot be abusive. Just sending money willy nilly to alleged debt collectors is bad business, especially when they put you on an easy marks list and sell your name to other so called debt collectors.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Lady was rude calling me at work I proceeded to tell I'm currently going back and forth with the dentist about this bill they never told me they didn't take my insurance and kept seeing my son. This rude [***] never gave me a chance to Even say I can send a payment or anything she started talking over me and once I start talking she kept hanging up in my face
I have dealt with the same woman I'm sure. She called me today and did not verify my information. She said she will be calling me back on Feb. 29th. My mother who works in collections says they are very wrong in there procedures and they could face legal issues..
