Received a call from this number, it is the "IRS have filed a lawsuit against you" scam. Called this number back and it was forwarded to another number, more than likely in India.
Received call from this number while at work. Listened to voicemail and called number back. Indian guy answered phone and asked for my phone number, then my name. I hung up...
Woman left a message (which sounded pre-recorded) that stated, "You are being sued. For further information, call 808-202-0480 immediately." There was an article on the TV news stating that recently there have been many phony IRS lawsuit telephone scams being made, scaring people into thinking they are from the IRS and you must make a prompt payment or serious penalties and jail time will result. The IRS does not contact people by telephone that way. This is a scam. Hang up! Incidentally, the caller ID said "wireless caller, 808-202-0480." There are ways to spoof the caller ID so that it shows whatever the caller wants the caller ID to read, rather than the real number.
This is Linda again. The caller called once again (most likely a robo-dialer) one hour later. This time, the caller ID said "Fort Worth, TX" and the "phony number" (pun intended) now stated 817-566-0637. The voice and message left was essentially the same. The scammer(s) are trying to panic people into quickly giving up their hard-earned money by a fear and intimidation tactic. It sounded like the same lady who left the first message (see above). Yeah, sure... one moment she's in Hawaii (area code 808), and an hour later she's in Fort Worth? The IRS initially contacts people by mail. Don't fall for it and give up your credit card number or buy bitcoins. Hang up.
Hindu? IRS Tax investigation scam. I called these clowns back all day relentlessly and they changed the number. I tracked the next 2 and kept calling. I got screamed at by them to stop calling and gave them the county sheriff number and told them to file a harassment complaint. they just shut the number down and changed it. They now call me back and I answer with a hindu accent and say IRS Fraud investigation dept. How can I help you? They hang up
