Just got another call. I get flooded with these about every six months or so - it got so bad that my employer had to change my office phone number and we also went to campus police. Since I work at a state institution, they're violating state laws - but since we can't do anything about them with the phone numbers, there's little to be done.
Today's call was on my cell phone, they can't call my work phone anymore because that number has been deactivated.
Today's call must have thought a voice mail answered, because he spoke as if he left a message on voice mail - and I was to call him back. Very different.
Payday loan extortion attempt scam.
Ignore the calls, nothing will happen.
Debt is a civil matter, not a criminal matter.
Go to ftc.gov and read the FDCPA and learn your rights.
It is a scam collector. Even if he was legitimate, a debt collector is allow to call a persons employer only one time. And the purpose of that call can only be to verifiy employment. Were he legal, he has already broken the law. I doubt you can stop him since he is hidden behind a spoofed number. Explain to your supervisor what is going home and don't talk to him.
It is a scam debt collector. He is allowed to call your employer only once to verify your employment. Then he must cease calling or be subject to laws. Taking care of this issue is up to you and your employer.
I alco keep getting these phone calls and now I am getting a lawyer to make sue these people are scams or not. The one guy says if I do not pay him today and he calls himself office Daniel Lincoln. I am not sure of the spelling on the last name.If they are officers they would be calling you until you pick up. He says since I do not call him back that he would have to call my manager to take legal action.
I got a call from 813-713-8983 stating that they were from the IRS and that they were coming after me. I know the IRS will send you letters in the mail first. It was pre recorded statement to call this 813-713-8983 number to take care of the IRS case.
