Always ask for documentation - no proof that you owe the debt = you don't pay the debt! They must send you a debt validation letter stating the original creditor, the amount you owe, and I would also state that you will not send any money until they also send you a copy of the contract showing your signature for said loan. If they can't or won't send you this proof of debt, ignore them. They are also breaking the law (the FDCPA) in threatening you with felony charges and jail time! Report them to the FTC, the FBI and your state's Attorney General. Yes, you may owe on a payday loan, however, you do want to make sure that you pay the original creditor and not some fly-by-night scammer.
This company left a message saying I was facing felony charges in TX!! When I called back they wanted me to confirm my social security number. I stupidly gave my SSN to confirm that I was NOT the person they were looking for. This may be a scam to get people's SSN. They said they were Legal Processing Services. Beware!!
They just called me today saying I will be facing felony charges and 90 days in jail if I don't pay one of my old payday loans cuz I gave them a voided check and they kept trying to cash it but this was like last year I believe and I had lost my job so couldn't make payments no more
This number called my mom & grandpas phone saying they are filing federal charges against me for an I pause payday loan. Threatening me jail time of 90 days. They were persistent in collecting 60% of the loan of 400. They also told my mom that they would tell the judge SHE wasn't coriporating in telling then where to find me. A warrant is to be issued in the morning for my arrest, that they filed for hot check making it a felony. It was a posted dated check so lender was aware there was no funds I'm acct therefor this is not considered a hot check.
