Caller had such a thick accent from India (or that region) that I could barely understand him. He transferred me to his supervisor who was also difficult to understand. The supervisor said he was calling for Microsoft, that they had been monitoring my computer and that many problems were identified. He was going to help me fix the problems to give my computer life long use. Well, he instructed me to enter commands in the "run" box which brought up a screen showing over 1,000 issues. Then he directed me to a web site which took me to a foreign web page (www.infosis.net) and wanted me to download the middle item. That's when I stopped and told him that I was not downloading anything with someone over the telephone who I don't know. He raised the volume of his voice and told me that my computer was infected and would cause problems. I hung up.
Its a well-known scam. My neighbor fell for it. I found out a month later and told her it was a scam. She took her computer to a local repair place. They discovered that the scammer had turned off her anti-malware. Thats the only problem they found, but that was enough. She replaced her tower and changed all of her bank account numbers. Better safe than sorry.
