Call the bank immediately and have them change your account number. Then read this. Putting pressure on people to pay immediately is a common ply:
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
Also watch this video and you will see them being trained in the tactics that you described:

This is definitely a scam. The message states that they are calling from L and B Mediation? They want to hear from me or my legal counsel, or they will forward my file for processing. This is quite funny, considering I work in a law office. Don't give these people the time of day. It sounds like a con.
Reading your post helps I'm freaking out but they told me EXACTLY what you state they said to you. ..same number but different area code. ..called my bank about supposed deposit in march 2011...a supposed loan from nlu financial. ..which doesn't even exist...I never opened my account until January of 2012...how can a deposit be made to an account that never existed lol. ..also what would their motive be to do this to someone. ..it's horrible and gave me a panic attack. ..it's not like they asked me for any personal information like ssn...I'm totally confused. ..my bank suggested getting my credit report which I'm doing now and I reported this number btw thank you!
Stated that a complaint had been filed and to call immediately or have my attorney call. If they don't hear from me they will proceed with..... I agree this is a scam.
I believe that people should get together and file a class action lawsuit against these obviously fraudulent people. I can imagine the number of senior citizens and others who are due by this type phone harassment. I live in the state of Washington and I will definitely be reporting this to our attorney generals office.
I hope something can be done because it's really scary. Threatening and ridiculous. If they have enough information for an affidavit, or subpoena to file criminal or civil charges, they certainly wouldn't need to do it over my cell phone.
I think the only way to stop these people is to get enough Atty. Gen.'s involved from a variety of states, to file on behalf of the state a class action lawsuit.
