I agree with Annoyed at Scammers. They will ask you a simple question that you say "yes" to. They are trying to get you to donate to their fake cause with your Credit Card. They will also ask for the Security Code on the back of your Credit Card. They will have recorded your voice saying "yes" and all of your Credit Card info they can get you to give them. They can then turn around and buy all kinds of things using your voice and your Credit Card. You will be responsible for the bill on Credit Card because you answered "yes" to their simple question and you gave them your Credit Card number and the Security Code on the back of your Credit Card.
Don't ever answer unknown calls. You can Google the organization for their phone number and call them to find out if they are really taking donations over the phone. I had a fake organization call me. I hung up on them and found the correct phone number. I called them and was told that NO they weren't making any phone call solicitations over the phone. I gave them the fake organizations name and phone number and they informed the FBI about them.
Robocall, southern drawl, "Hi this is Ray, how are you today?" "I'm hungry. How are you, Ray?" "I'm fine thanks. [pause] Well that's good. [pause]" "So what are you selling, Ray?" *click* Dangit. Stupid voice-activated bots respond to background noise and ruin my fun.
As others above have said, never answer "yes" or "no" to anyone you don't know. No variants either: Fine, good, sure, etc, All will allow them to use phase two on you: Pasting your reply into something that has you agreeing to all sorts of ungodly things. And never call the numbers you see on Caller ID. They're either spoofed to a disconnected one or to a live person who will laugh if you ask to be removed from their list.
And of course, being on the Do Not Call list doesn't help. They're scammers, they're too busy stealing money to waste it on subscribing to the list.
Got a call from Ray the Redneck Robocaller wanting a donation for the coppers. Asked if he could count on me returning the donation envelope with a donation I felt comfortable with. To which, when he finally paused, I told him I'd be most comfortable sitting on the toilet with the envelope under my ace and that's all I was going to donate. I don't know if a live person ever goes back to listen to callers and what they say, but if there is hopefully I made his day a little worse (I was so much more graphic with what I actually said).
