I got a call saying I owed on a cash advance. Said I owed 2485.00. And if I didn't pay 850.00 right now I would be arrested. I called the cash advance place that I had over a year ago. And they told me I was paid in full so I decided to on look up attorney general sam wilson and found all this scam stuff. It about gave me a heart attack. So iamreporting this too get this number out there. How can we stop this.
They rely on ignorance and fear on the part of the people they call. Being in ordinary civil debt is not a crime and you CANNOT be arrested for it. We do not have debtors prisons in the US. These people re Indian and Pakistani hard core scammer/extortionists. In any event law enforcement officers do not contact people in this manner. You can check this out by simply going down to your local police station and reporting this incident. The police can then notify the media and the community so people will be on the lookout for these sorts of scams. Report it here as well: http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx
Make sure your parents or guardians know about this. Also report it to the local police department. Report it here as well: http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx
Total scam. US law enforcement doesn't operate that way. No law enforcement agency calls you up and tells you you're are going to be arrested. Total nonsense and a vicious scam that preys on people who are ignorant of US law. Being in debt is not a crime and you cannot be arrested for it.
I also received a call from 911 and they left a voice mail saying to call within 30 min to the General Attorney Sam Wilson office or I would be arrested by the Local police.
