Several calls from this number. Do not call this number. Female asked for someone? Not me. Mumbled a few word, sounded like she had a [***] in her mouth.
It's Navy Federal Credit Union. They left me voicemail and asked me to call back at their regular number. This is a legitimate call, as I had called them yesterday, it is only a spoofed number so you do not have a direct line to their loan officers, etc.
This is a guaranteed scam call! Me, nor my family or extended family has ever had a business relationship (or applied for a loan, credit card, credit instrument of any sort, etc.) with Navy Federal Credit Union.
The scammers have the intelligence of a child in kindergarten. I called the number back, and what I got was a message that said I reached a nonworking number for Navy Federal Credit Union. If this phone number were truly inactive or not-working, then the telephone company's message would have played "The number you dialed is no longer in service..."
So, the recording isn't a legitimate telephone company advisement. As well, what company "EVER" creates a message to tell their customers that their line is not-working. Seriously? A legitimate/competent business automatically re-directs/forwards all incoming calls to their working business number(s), without inconveniencing/confusing the caller by playing a business recording stating "You've reached a non-working number at Navy Federal Credit Union".
I looked up the actual phone number of Navy Federal's Customer Service using Google, it's (888) 842-6328. If anyone actually thinks this spam call is legitimate, then call NFCU's customer service line, and ask them if they have an active phone number, playing a message that states it's a non-working NFCU number.
And, more simplistically...the scam phone message, could just as easily have stated, "This is a nonworking number for ________". Fill in the blank with anyone/any business, a cartoon character, etc., and it's just as true. I mean, 1(850)912-0000 is a non-working number for Donald Duck, as much as it's a non-working number for NFCU.
It's a non-working number for everyone on this planet, except for the actual scammer, who is likely collecting active phone numbers to solicit or sell to anyone who will buy their directory, hence why I called back anonymously using Caller ID blocking.
