The FOP is doing a lot of really great things for New Jersey police officers and the people that call are trying to help them raise money so they can do even more good.
There are no better paid civil servants in the USA than the New Jersey police. It is not unusual for patrolman to start at $60,000 per year and after a few years getting to $80,000. A Sergeant can easily make over $100,000 Health insurance is generous, better than anything found in the private sector and they retire early after just 20 years. The pension program is amazing paying 60-80% of their ending salary.
In consideration of these facts, and becauseof my existing donations through my ridiculous taxes, and the fact the aevrage police officer makes far more than I do with much better benefits, I will not be making a donation, ever.
I appreciate the work of the police, the occasional dangers they face but in New Jersey they do not need any more of our money- and they damn well know it.
