Same deal with me. Young black man selling books for college. I told him I didn't really want any books but I would buy the cheapest thing to donate. I gave him a $28 check because he said that would be the total. He leaves and I start feeling the "oh no what have I done" feeling.
I get my receipt and not only does it say I owe an additional $25 but it says I also paid him in cash...not a check!
I hopped into my car and headed through my complex until I found him and told him to give my check back!! He apologized and gave it to me!
I just pray he doesn't try to bill me for the remainder of that since it says I paid cash on his ticket. Didn't think to get that from him. BUT I GOT MY CHECK BACK!!! :-) LOL!

These young people should be completely ashamed of themselves!

The kids know exactly what they are doing when they spill this story to you.  
The boy that came to my door just lied about the donated book being exactly the same price as the book if you keep it for yourself. Plus he purposely checked cash when I clearly paid him with a check.
I told him upfront I wanted to donate but he put it down that I wanted it for myself. Then when I asked him he said it was the same price. When I caught it and asked him to explain why it says I owe more, he said well they are more if you keep the book!
They know exactly what they are doing!
He got caught several times lying about the cost and how the program works.

This sounds to familiar.  Last evening MIchael Prophett came to my apartment between 8:30 and 9:00pm which upset me.  He started his sales pitch telling me he was trying to win a college scholarship to attend the University of Georgia.  I selected a magazine which he told me was $30.  I closed the door and filled out a check in this amount then he told me I still had to send in $25.  Then I asked him when I sould receive my first issue and he told me within two weeks.  When I examined the receipt closer, it states 90 to 120 days to receive first issue.  He also stated when I sent in my final payment, I had to include three positive comments about him.  After this, I started doing researching and writing local newspapers and television stations to bring awareness to this company and the possiblity of the scam they are running.

Have you tried writing or calling your local newspaper, radio stations and television stations?  These are just a few examples to try and spread the word about this company and their business practices.  It seems through my findings that they have multiple locations as well as phone numbers.  They had another website at one time but it's no longer valid.  If they are running a scam, I hope they get what's coming to them......biggy

A young lady came to my Family Childcare Home stating she was from AL, and she was attending school in FL and needed to get money to help with her housing......I fell for the scam. I purchased books   for the children in my daycare  on 02/23/11 and have yet to receive anything!!! I keep records so I started calling the number on the receipt and its constantly busy!!! UGH! So frustrating you try to help people and they only want to get over.
