We did this, we ended up getting prepaid (Net10, Straight Talk and Cricket) When we started the Verizon Family plan.. switched from ATT to get a lower price we were told $45 a month. We had 5 lines (and bought our own phones) it ended up as $580-something a month, with things like "$75 misc fees and taxes" and insurance on every phone, etc. They'd add a lot for extra data even though the plan holder would add extra data when it started to get low before it ran out. she asked them "can you tell me why our bill is so high?" and the person said "no" so she suspended all the phones and cancelled it. We will probably owe a fortune to them for early cancellation fees but she said she was setting up payments to pay this. The Verizon numbers have been calling my home phone since BEFORE this, i was on the family plan and used my home phone to call them a few times to make a payment so they now have my home phone (not cell) number. People should be warned about this, they get you locked up in a plan and then add more to it and then you can't cancel without paying a lot more. I live in a rural area that doesn't have much to pick from for plans and had thought prepaid wouldn't work good here, and would be a bother. I got my phone (had been set up with Verizon) set up with Straight Talk, but I'm not sure if Verizon will LOCK it t some point and I'll have to get another phone. So much of this happens, and people end up with locked phones they can't use which is a waste.
I am a senior citizen and have Tracfone for emergencies. I rarely use it. I do not now nor have I ever had a cell phone with Verizon. I get 3 calls at a time from them from either 857-233-0301 or 857-233-0299. I have tried calling them back using the * option in the recording, but it asks for a 10-digit reference number and does not accept my phone number (of course not! I don't have an account with them!) The 0301 number gives a number to call. When I called that it was a out of service and the recording gives another number. I called that one which turned out to be a billing department. It asked for my phone number, and again couldn't find it, so I could do nothing but hang up. The only people who call me on that phone are close family, Verizon, and a hearing aid company that is ready to ship my order that I never made. It's frustrating!!!
Unfortunately, TracFone does not offer call blocking. However, one of the following tips might work for you.
Modern technology has given telescammers the tools to call you.
Since those telescammers are criminals, they ignore both the Do Not Call list and any request you might make.
Modern technology can also protect you, if YOU do a few simple things!
The most effective thing to do is to get a call blocker device, service or app.
Then, use it correctly.
Google "call blocker" for more information, or visit Amazon or similar sales site.
If you cannot afford or use such a tool, then:
* Do not answer calls from unknown numbers ... let them go to voicemail or answering service
* Do NOT return calls from unknown numbers! All that does is verify your phone number! And, in some cases, those return calls may cost $20 or more to complete.

* If you have a "dumb" cell phone, assign the scammer's number to a group named "scammers" (or similar). Then, assign a silent ringtone to that group.
* Another option, for both smart and "dumb" cell phones: Assign a "silent ringtone" as DEFAULT. Then, assign your favorite ringtones to all known friends / family / business numbers. That way, you will hear rings ONLY from those you wish to contact! You will not hear scammers' rings, even if they change their number!
If you want to report potential fraudulent or scam calls, here are two pages of links to (mostly government) sites in Canada and the USA were you can report those scams, or learn more about them.

I have been getting calls from Verizon Wireless (various numbers, Boston MA they must have thousands) and don't answer. I was on a family plan with someone else who cancelled the account, due to Verizon adding more and more charges and 'misc taxes and fees" to it, it was more than any of us could afford to pay and more than we were told BEFORE we started the family plan. It wasn't my account bu they apparently got my landline number from a few times I had called and paid my share of it from my home phone. I wasn't sure if it was really Verizon, some people said it was a scam when I Googled the number. Point is, Verizon has a facebook page, you can write on and ask, I asked about these numbers and was told they are LEGIT and to send a personal message with my name, number, etc and they'd see about stopping the calls to me. I didn't want to do this, I figured than they'd know my FB info and start harrassing me on that.. but sound like you could write to them on FB and they can fix your problem with not knowing who the person is. They give other people numbers so fast, that's probably what it is.
