They left a message on my phone saying lower your electric rates call starts from a Norwich Connecticut phone number is people are scammers or telemarketers ignore the no call registry
Whenever a # comes across my Caller ID that I just know is not someone I know, I pick up and don't say a word and eventually I get a quick busy signal then disconnect. I usually get them right around this time of day 5-6:00pm. No use in ever being on the DNC List anywhere at least here in CT. Several years back our Attorney General admitted they do not have the manpower any longer so it is pretty much defunct like most things nowadays!
Many of the scammers and phone "phishers" want to make sure that someone is on the line. So they set their machines to listen for a "hello". Some of them set the machines to hear "hello", twice. Then the machine transfers your call to a human who will start the scam.
When I answer phones and the caller ID is suspicious, I say "hello" as softly as possible. The machine waits for the second "hello", which I never say. In a few seconds, the machine hangs up.
I figure that if they are going to waste my time, I might as well waste their time.
This number called saying it was offering a discount on my Eversource (Utility provider in Connecticut) bill. When calling back the number was not in service.
I have been getting daily calls from 860-215-8001, but they never leave a message. I answered the phone today to get a recording about getting a credit on my Eversource bill. Caller ID reads Norwich, CT, but I didn't stay on the line to speak with a live representative. I am so glad that I signed up for the National Do Not Call Registry, because I'm getting more & more of these calls.
