This number is used as the caller ID for Gizmo5 subscribers when they make out-bound phone calls from their VoIP service. This sometimes occurs for numbers they are calling that are registered with Google Voice or if they have not subscribed to Gizmo caller ID. It's a bug that I intend to report. Therefore any number of Gizmo5 subscribers could be making their normal day-to-day personal or business calls and they would all (in error) show the (860) 616-4189 number as their caller ID to the person receiving the call.
I just got a call from this number and they told me that my credit card account is in good standing, but that I need to act quickly in order to get a reduced APR of like 6% on my credit card and to press #9 if I am interested in speaking with an account representative. Since they were so vague in the details about which credit card company they're with, I hung up. I also know that credit card companies don't usually call with offers like this so this was likely a fraudulent call.
This number looks up to be an unpublished number in Trumbull, CT. I tried calling this number and I got a recording, "I'm sorry, your call did not go through". This place probably is using a service that I know exists where you can alter the caller id someone will see on their telephone.
I have received several calls from this number each time with a different story, different name, and different business name; I recognized the voice as being the same person each time, an arrogant individual with an Indian accent. In the background you can hear a lot of clamor like this is a call center, so this is probably part of a large scam operation.
In each case they claim money is owed and a court case will be started if this isn't resolved quickly, and I was given a case number an instructed to call 212-500-0839. When you ask questions you just get a lot of fast double talk, and they guy evades just answering the question. After several calls I did get this adress out of them, although it is probably bogus.

When I pressed them further I got them to yield the last 4 digits of my SSN which is not mine, and I've never lived or done business where they say the transaction took place. In reading other comments on the web regarding that phone number in New York, I read one version where this operation "realizes" that this is all in error, and is throwing wrong driver license numbers and SSN's at you, and in resolving this whole thing trick you into revealing your real SSN, license number, and banking information.
I'm in the process of working with the State Attorney General to investigate this, and I urge you to do the same in whatever state you are in.
