A foreign woman called and said there is something wrong with my computer. I hung up. Had many of these calls and they are all a scam. NO computer company will call you unless you call them first.
Do not be fooled! Do not do anything these guys ask you to do!
These people are trying to get you to give them control of your computer. At first they say they are getting notifications from your computer that it has been infected. Wrong. Then they tried to convince me that because some of my services were not running, this was evidence of infection. Wrong again. They will try to tell you that the infection will continue until all of your services are stopped and your computer will no longer function. They will also tell you that every device on your home network will become infected. All of this is just to scare you into giving them control... just don't do it!
If you are an experienced professional computer person, you might get some amusement by playing along with them for a while. If you are not experienced, just tell them you know it's a scam and hang up.
So I got a call yesterday shortly after logging into a conference room computer in my office. They rang my conference room number! Then seconds later I get a call on my cell from the same people! I felt like I was in a scene from Minority Report.
How the hell did they know where and when I was logging in?
I was using a ssd thumb drive. Someone in the office mentioned there have been instances of these being shipped with viruses. However, I had not opened any files on this drive prior to the call. But I have experienced some weird issues with accessing the files since my encounter.
Typical Computer access SCAM!!! Interesting how fast they hung up when mentioning that I would love them to show up at the house as I am a former FEDERAL employee.
