Started as a girl on the dating app "Plenty of Fish", or POF. Began messaging her, and developed a mutual relationship. I go to sleep one night, and wake up the next day to three messages and a missed call from a man claiming to be her father. He starts off with a long story about how his daughter (who he says is 17, not 19 as her profile stated) ran away from her parent's house in Georgia (area code is South Carolina, so that was my first hint) and moved to her grandmother's house in Virginia. It seemed real at first, but as I listened, it became clear that it was a scam. The caller never used his name, never let his "wife" speak, would never give any information regarding his supposed lawyer, and wouldn't except anything less than $512, which he just about pleaded for. Via text, he didn't sound like a grown man, let alone a father. He never used proper English, used "wtf", "u", "stfu", and was grammatically incorrect most of the time. His greeting was "hey son". Didn't sound to pissed to me. The "father" goes on to say how his wife wanted to press charges and how his daughter is being sent back to Georgia with them. To avoid and legal trouble, he offered to forget about the whole thing in exchange for that a plane ticket and new phone, that totaled around $512, or so he said. Had this situation been real, and he actually had a daughter who was 17, and was actually pressing charges, I highly doubt he would accept $512 instead of seeking justice through the legal system. When I called him out on the scam, he immediately unraveled and lost his composure. He then became irate, and it was clear he was a punk kid trying to scam some unfortunate person.
